JANELL MOORE MPH, LM,CPM
Janell Moore (she/her) is a California Medical Board Licensed Midwife (LM) and a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). She holds a Masters in Public Health (MPH) and has worked in sexual and reproductive health and advocacy for nearly 20 years. Upon completing her masters at UCLA, Janell dedicated her career to working in epidemiological HIV research and prevention, specifically among BIPOC and LGBTQI communities. She has worked with HIV-positive pregnant and lactating people in Uganda and the DR Congo as well as managed HIV research projects in Cambodia and the US. She has extensive experience managing federally funded research and community clinical site operations.
Janell graduated from the MEAC-accredited midwifery program at Maternidad La Luz in El Paso, Texas. She has worked as a medical assistant in free and low-cost community clinics providing services in family planning, abortion and HIV/STI testing and counseling. She has attended over 100 births between homebirth and birth center practice. She is fluent in Spanish and holds current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation. She provides trauma informed, culturally competent care from a sex and body positive gender-affirming framework. She practices midwifery with care, competency and professionalism and takes pride in ushering in new life safely and with compassion.
In addition to guest lecturing at UCLA, Janell is a Faculty Instructor at the Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery where she teaches the Epidemiology and HIV classes. With years of experience in sexual reproductive health, Janell develops original curriculum and provides mentorship to the next generation of midwives.
